Quick Recovery Guide


Whenever you delete a file / format a drive, the data is not lost. It is still present in the disk and is still recoverable. However it is not accessible. Disk Doctors Undelete software would scan the drive for lost / deleted data and helps you to restore it to a safe location which can then be accessed as before.

Follow the steps below to recover deleted data using Disk Doctors Undelete software

1. Run the program either by double clicking on File:Disk Doctors Undelet-1.jpgicon on the desktop or from Programs list in Start menu.

2. Select a logical drive which has deleted data and click File:Disk Doctors Digital Media-4.jpg

(File:Dick Doctors Data(NTFS)-6.jpg If the logical drive you are looking for is not displayed in the list of logical drives, then use Search lost partitions(logical drives) option to find your lost partition(logical drive) and proceed with recovery process.)

As you click Next button, the application scans the selected drive for deleted data and lists all the found files and folders in a tree format under Root folder as shown in Figure b.

3. Once recovery is complete and tree structure is formed, the next and final step is to restore your found files and folders to a safe location. You can use File:Disk Doctors Undelet-4.jpg to locate the file you wish to restore and File:Disk Doctors Undelet-5.jpg option, which can be used after Find option, to locate already found file in other locations, present if any, in the big tree structure formed. You can also preview the file before it could be recovered.

Select the data you wish to recover or click Root folder to select all the found data and click File:Disk Doctors Undelet-6.jpg.

As you click Save button, a window to select destination location to restore recovered data is displayed as shown in Figure c.

Disk Doctors Undelete provides two options to save your data.

1. Save data to local drive
2. Burn data to CD/DVD.

Select the destination location and specify the file types you wish to ignore(file filter) while saving. check if you want the data to be restored in compressed form and click File:Disk Doctors Digital Media-10.jpg. As you click OK button, the program starts saving the data to selected destination location. Once saving is complete a message pops up intimating the same. All the data will be restored in a new folder by name "UndeleteX " in selected destination location. You can now access your recovered data as before.

File:Dick Doctors Data(NTFS)-6.jpgIf you are recovering data from a FAT partition, and you are unable to find your data in the tree structure formed, then use "Search lost partitions" option. The program scans the drive for logical drives and displays a new list of logical drives. Select the FAT partition which has lost / deleted data and process it to locate your data.


Recover data from lost partitions


Please follow these steps to recover data from lost partitions (logical drives).

1. Run the program either by double clicking on File:Disk Doctors Undelet-1.jpgicon on the desktop or from Programs list in Start menu.

2. Click File:Disk Doctors Undelet-8.jpg to search for lost partitions. A window to select physical drive to scan for lost partition (logical drive) is displayed as shown in Figure a.

3. Select a physical drive which has lost partitions(logical drive) and click File:Disk Doctors Digital Media-10.jpg. As soon as you click OK button, the program scans for lost partitions(logical drive) in the selected hard drive. Once scan for lost partitions is complete, a message is popped up intimating that the process is complete and displays the number of partitions found after scanning. Click File:Disk Doctors Digital Media-10.jpg. As you click OK, all the found partitions after scanning would be displayed as shown in Figure b.

4. Select a partition(logical drive) from which data needs to be recovered and click File:Disk Doctors Digital Media-4.jpg. The program scans selected drive for lost / deleted data and lists all the found files and folders in a tree structure.

You can now restore the data that needs to be recovered to a safe location.

File:Dick Doctors Data(NTFS)-6.jpgTo view existing partitions after scan for lost partitions, click File:Disk Doctors Undelet-11.jpg. As you click View Existing Partitions button, the program would load the existing partitions connected locally to the system.



Save data to local disk


Window to select destination location to save scanned data is as shown in Figure a.

Disk Doctors Undelete provides two options to save scanned or repaired data.

1. Save data to local drive.
2. Burn data to CD/DVD.

By default it is set to save the data to local drive.

Select a logical drive in your local disk and specify the file type you wish to ignore (file filter) while recovery. This is to filter the file types which you donot want to recover. You can save data in compressed form by checking "Compress data" box and click File:Disk Doctors Digital Media-10.jpg.

Burn data to CD / DVD


If you do not want to save the data to local drive, then you can use Burn data to CD / DVD option to write your recovered data to a CD / DVD. Select Burn data to CD / DVD tab in the window to select destination location as shown in Figure a.

Select a burning device on which you want to burn the data. Select drive to be used for temporary cache. This space will be used as a temporary cache when burning large data.

Specify the file types you wish to ignore (file filter) during restoration process, check if you want the data to be saved in compressed format and click File:Disk Doctors Digital Media-10.jpg. As you click OK button, the program starts burning data to selected CD / DVD. Once all data is saved, a pop up message is displayed intimating the same. The data will be saved in a new folder as "UndeleteX" in the selected destination location and you can now access the recovered data as before.
