Main Window


The Main Window in the [Password Saver] interface is separated into four distinct functional areas.

Menubar: Most [Password Saver] functionality is accessible from these four menus.

File menu: open, save, and close files

Edit: add, edit, delete and duplicate items, navigate or change the tree structure

Tools: manage passwords, search, export and import data, manage folder and record templates

Help: open the help file or tutorial, register, go to the pwdsaver.com Web site

Toolbar: The toolbar provides one-click access to Password Saver's most commonly used functions.

Tree-like Menu: The tree-like menu is where you access and organize your data. The interface is similar to the familiar Windows desktop, with Records stored in Folders and a Recycle Bin for deleting and recovering files.

Detail View: The detail view is where you add and modify the data for each individual record. Selecting a record displays its data in editable fields. The detail view provides certain "hot buttons" depending on the type of field:

file:password saver-2.jpgCopy to clipboard. This function copies the contents of this field to the clipboard. For hidden passwords, the password is copied, not the asterixes.
[[file:password saver-3.jpg]]Open in IE. This function launches Internet Explorer and loads the URL in the field.
file:password saver-4.jpgGenerate Password. This function launches a special version of Password Generator that lets you paste the generated password directly into the field.


File Menu


The File menu contains the following [Password Saver] file management functions:

New. Create a new [Password Saver] database (.pss file.)

Open. Open an existing [Password Saver] database.

Save. Save changes to your currently open [Password Saver] database.

Save As. Save the currently opened database to a .pss file of a different name.

Properties. View such properties of currently opened file as "File Name", "Date created", "Last modified", "Cryptography" and "Algorithms" used.

Close. Close the currently opened database.

Exit. Close the [Password Saver] application.


Edit Menu


The edit menu contains the following [Password Saver] functionality:

Folder and Record Management:

Add Folder. Presents a list of folder templates for the user to select. The selected folder is then added one level below the currently selected node.

Add Record. Presents a list of record templates for the user to select. The selected record is then added one level below the currently selected node.

Changing and Navigating the Tree Structure:

Move Up. Moves the selected record or folder one position higher.

Move Left. Moves the selected record or folder one level higher in the tree structure.

Move Down. Moves the selected record or folder one position lower.

Editing Folders and Records:

Rename. Change the name of the currently selected item.

Edit Record. Displayed when a record is selected. Launches a window where the user can change the icon and name as well as add/remove data fields for the selected record.

Edit Folder. Displayed when a folder is selected. Lets the user change the icon and name of the selected folder.

Other:

Duplicate. Duplicates selected record or folder. For folders, the contents will be duplicated as well.

Export Folder. Exports the folder and its contents to an encrypted .pss file or a text file. Useful for sharing passwords with other [Password Saver] users.

Export Record. Exports the selected record to an encrypted .pss file or a text file. Useful for sharing passwords with other [Password Saver] users.

Expand All. Shows the content of all nodes in the tree-like menu.

Collapse All. Hides the contents of all nodes except the root menu in the tree-like menu.

Delete. Deletes the selected record or folder.



Tools Menu


The tools menu is comprised of a number of functions for managing your [Password Saver] data:

Change Password. Change the master password.

Password Generator. Generate a random alphanumeric password.

Find. Search for folders and records by keyword.

Export All Data to File. Export your entire database to an encrypted .pss file or text file.

Import From File. Import a .pss file or a .csv file. After the password for the .pss file is entered, the data will be added to the currently opened database. If you have selected .csv file the import wizard will be activated. For more details see the section "Import Wizard for csv file".

Manage Folder Templates. Add, delete, or modify Folder Templates.

Manage Record Templates. Add, delete, or modify Record Templates.

Options. Options dialog will be activated. For more details see the section "Options dialog".
